Hi all - I thought we could begin our discussion regarding the videos and their intended use and purpose here. Feel free to add to the discussion with your thoughts at anytime.
Purpose Inverted Classroom
Strengths
- Gives the student time to review materials at home before the lecture so that they come to class mentally
prepared (hopefully) for new concepts.
- Allows more time in class for labs and investigation.
- Students can work at their own pace and hit pause/rewind as many times as they like.
- Students can access materials on their mobile devices.
- Infusion of videos and pictures that help them make a permanent memory marker.
Weaknesses
- If students are reluctant to do homework now, this might put them even further behind.
- Not all students have access to materials necessary to play the videos.
- No teacher present to help the students through tough materials.
- School sites may block the websites hosting the videos.
Opportunities
- If we get this right, it could revolutionize education for our students.
- Creating a solid template could help teachers district-wide.
- This could be better than khanacademy. Seriously. The software they use could look better.
Threats
- Access. If we mandate that students view the videos as a part of the classroom lecture, then we are obligated
to provide the resources to the students so that they can access the materials. Failure to do so could result in
lawsuits (potentially) from families that don't have the resources available.
- Technology changes. How long will this last before it becomes outdated?
- No adoption. Teachers don't like the idea...we've spent time and money (how much?) to find out it doesn't work.

participate if we do this?
